My thesis design project for Master of Architecture at the University of Portsmouth was for a Timber Education Centre, aimed as a re-integration of the historical wood craft in Shoreham-by-Sea.
Informed by the concept that architecture should be multi-sensory, as opposed to ocular centric design, it should apply to as many of the human senses as possible, the design features phenomenological material application. This is applied through the immersive experience of trees and timber as an arboreal landscape element and as a biophilic building material.
"The use of timber through phenomenological material application can improve productivity and well-being."
